Youth & Junior Teams

Junior training for SUNDAY 2ND MAY has been cancelled due to rain.
One of the most important elements of High Wycombe Cricket Club is its highly successful Youth & Junior Section. Formed with the objectives of developing the talents of local young players, promoting cricket in the community, securing ongoing competition success to enhance the reputation of the Club as a centre of excellence in cricket and providing a continuing progression of talented players into its senior sides, the Club is justly proud of the achievements of its Youth & Junior Section.
With an annual enrolment of over 150 members there are on-going successes by the age group squads in County, Regional and National competitions. Players have progressed through Junior and Youth cricket at the Club which in turn is now providing the nucleus of the senior sides. The success of the Club in meeting the development objectives of its Youth and Junior Section are readily apparent.
Formed in 1991 by the former Club President, Richard Morgan and subsequently managed for many years by Geoff Barrow the Youth and Junior Section is now led by Keith Newell, the HWCC Director of Cricket, assisted by an enthusiastic and dedicated team of ECB qualified coaching staff. The Section has amassed an extensive archive of competition successes through the years, most notably including winning the Sun Life of Canada Under 15 National Club Championship in 1994 and reaching the last eight of the same competition in 1999, winning through to the Under 13 National Club Finals in 1993 to finish a very creditable 6th in the country and reaching the Regional Finals of the ECB Spirit of Cricket Under 13 National Club Championships in 2006.
The Club provides youth and junior cricket coaching for all age groups from Under 8 to Under 17, including competition squads from Under 11 to Under 15 and at Under 17. The Youth and Junior Section coaching groups operate from late April each year through to the commencement of school holidays in late July/early August with additional competition and friendly match cricket through the holiday period. Coaching camps are held during school holidays, at indoor venues at Easter and at the HWCC London Road ground and other outdoor venues through the summer. We also have a new gilrls section which is currently accomodating girls aged between 8 to 13 which we hope will go from strength to strength.
The Club enters sides in all of the Bucks Cricket Board County League and Knockout Cup Competitions from age groups Under 11 to Under 17, an Under 17 side in the Kookaburra Mid-Bucks Youth League and Knockout Cup competitions, Junior sides at Under 9 and Under 10 in all local Kwik Cricket tournaments.
Coaching sessions for the Under 8, 13 and 14 Age Group are held on Friday evenings from 18.00 to 20.00, for the Under 9, 10, 11, 12 Age Groups they are held on Sunday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 and for the Under 15 and 17 Age Groups on Monday evenings from 18.00 to 20.00. The annual registration fee is £90. This fee also gives parents / guardians two full Social Membership places at the Club, the Junior Member a High Wycombe CC cricket shirt with logo and free winter nets.
Due to the success and popularity of the Club and the extent of the local area, the Club receives many more requests for coaching places than it is able to accommodate. At Under 10 and below the procedure adopted by the Club is to enrol junior members on a first come, first served, basis. At age groups Under 11 and above, where the squads are involved in competition cricket, annual membership renewal from the preceding year is by invitation and, where additional places in the age group squads become available, trials are held to determine whether an applicant has the ability, experience and / or potential to gain a place in the age group team before a place is offered. In the event that a place within the junior set up cannot be obtained we will endeavour to help all to find an appropriate club within the local area.
