Director of Cricket

My name is Keith Newell and I am Director of Cricket at High Wycombe Cricket club. I have been very fortunate in life to have been paid for doing the thing I love most,..playing cricket. I played professionally for Sussex from 1990 to 1998,with 1992 on the MCCYC staff at Lord's and Glamorgan 1999 to 2002.

There are many great things I remember from these years, facing Allan Donald on a rock hard green wicket at Edgbaston, scoring 135 against the West Indies for my maiden first class 100 and playing at the 2000 Benson and Hedges Lord's final against Gloucestershire.

These things are all great but they wouldnt have been possible without being involved within great cricket club's when I was younger. Crawley Cricket Club in my youth and then Three Bridges Cricket Club for when I was trying to make the transition between youth cricket and adult cricket.

I feel as much fondness and you could also say devotion to my 'clubs' just as much as to my counties because without them there would have been no counties. Now there is another club to go with that list and it's High Wycombe Cricket Club.I hope that with my experience, knowledge both as a player and a coach within cricket I can help to improve on an already excellent cricket structure and one of the biggest clubs in the UK.

There are many resources and scheme's now for cricket and sports clubs to utilise including 'Chance to Shine' and our very own 'Cricket in the Community'  scheme so there should be no excuse for not being able to take cricket to the schools and to those who need it the most.In doing this with High Wycombe Cricket Club I hope to create a strong link with the community and schools in the area giving girls, boys of all ages and backgrounds the best opportunity of playing the sport which I have loved throughout my life.
